Recovery Project-musical edition!

After speaking to McDonogh’s Principal and Band teacher, the idea was instigated to help McDonogh restock their music department. As with a lot of items, both school and personal, their music supply was lost or damaged during Hurricane Katrina and it’s aftermath.

Tremper’s Jazz Ensemble class teach the study of Jazz and it’s birth in New Orleans, talking about such great New Orleans jazz musicians as Louie Armstrong and Jelly Roll Morton. They cover the way jazz music is written versus how it is interpreted, and it’s different style, musical language and feel, as well as teaching and analyzing how musicians in the Jazz field are more prone to improvising. New Orleans Jazz is an integral part of the Band, Choir and Orchestra curriculum.

The entire music department has begun a sheet music; musical instrument; and music equipment drive to help the music department at McDonogh and other New Orleans High Schools.  They are reaching out to all music departments in Kenosha Unified to invite them to become part of this project.

A citywide drive will be held on Friday, January 26th so that Kenosha residents may drop off musical pieces at the Tremper Commons in front of the school.  Students from the music classes will be there to gather the donations and thank the donators.

LeBlanc industries from Kenosha, a world-renowned musical instrument manufacturer, heard about the “Recovery Project” and has also pledged instruments to the project.

If you would like to donate, you can contact the music department at Tremper High School, or drop off items from 7:15-3:15 on Jan 26th in Tremper’s commons.
